March 1 1, 2025
Dear Families, Staff, and Community Members of RSU 4,
As spring arrives, bringing warmer temperatures, cheerful birdsong, and the first blooms of crocuses, I want to share important upcoming dates regarding the future of Sabattus Primary School.
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the Board will hold a public hearing in the Oak Hill High School gymnasium for the Board to provide information about the closure of Sabattus Primary School. This meeting will also give community members an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts. There will not be a vote at the public hearing. The meeting will be livestreamed on the RSU 4 Youtube channel for those unable to attend.
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, residents of Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales are encouraged to vote on the Sabattus Primary School closure referendum. Polling locations open at 7:00 AM in Wales and at 8:00 AM in Litchfield and Sabattus, with all polls closing at 8:00.
Unlike the RSU No. 4 budget vote, which requires all three towns' votes to be counted together, this referendum only requires at least one town voting "yes" for the School Board to proceed with closing Sabattus Primary School.
Currently, the School Board is reviewing the Superintendent's proposed school budgets for the 2025-2026 school year - one budget assuming Sabattus Primary remains open and another reflecting its closure. For more information about the Sabattus Primary School closure and proposed budgets, please visit our website and click on the corresponding icon under the photo banner.
We recognize that closing Sabattus Primary School is a significant transition, and we are actively preparing timelines and plans to ensure our buildings, staff, and students are ready for the next school year if the vote results in closure. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns at katy. grondin@rsu4.org.
Thank you,
Katherine (Katy) Grondin
