To RSU 4 Residents:

The School Board, since March, has been working on setting a budget for the 2023-2024 school year that met the educational needs of all students and was fiscally responsible. Following the failed referendum in June, the School Board reduced the School budget by $323,758.26. The areas of reduction were; Worker’s Compensation due to receipt of an updated bill, Fuel due to recent locked-in prices, Maintenance and Repair for a project that can be delayed one year, Supplies, Professional Development, Tuition Reimbursement, and two Educational Technician positions that were not filled this year. In addition, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) was added to the school budget due to a nurse position being removed from the COVID grant to allow technology costs to move from the school budget to the grant.

We understand the significance of the request for your support for the $22,129,406.56 RSU 4 School Budget, which serves the three towns of Litchfield, Sabattus, and Wales, benefitting approximately 1300 students. To provide you with insight into the budget's expenditures, we have provided the reasons, our “Why?”, for each article below. Your understanding of these key aspects is crucial in making well-informed decisions that will shape the future of our educational community. We greatly appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing these explanations, as your support ensures the continued success and growth of our students and schools.
